Strefa - a micro universe hidden in the city centre. A music club, a pub,  workshop and gallery space. A place of meetings: a crossing point for many dancers, singers, musicians; the creators and receivers of art, the teachers and students - not rarely in one person. The space of mutual inspiration. The one and only place, where one evening you'll see each of the bartenders onstage, each of the musicians behind the bar. This can happen because the place, from the very beginning, is created by the playing and singing ones - starting with its founders - Joanna and Jan Słowiński, co-creators of many musical projects (Muzykanci band, Joanna's solo projects), the animators of ethno stage (EtnoKrakow/Crossroads Festival, Krakow House of Dance, and others)

Strefa's concert agenda puts emphasis on promoting the artists that cultivate the traditions of the oldest sources of music culture (StrefaEtno) and the performers, to whom the inspiration of ethno music is a place to start with for their own, creative interpretation (StrefaJazz, StrefaOtwarta [Open]). Strefa's important projects are also: Dwukropek [:colon] - a cyclic interdisciplinary forum gathering young artists, mainly of the literary song field; cyclic workshops and dancing parties, including not only Polish traditional dances, but also other dances from different regions of Europe and other continents.

Strefa is happy to host such diverse and international communities as: The Swing Experience - a group that organizes classes and events for people interested in the classic jazz era dances of the American 1920s & 30s, who at Strefa meet every Monday for a dancing party, preceded by an hour-long lesson for beginners, allowing everyone to hit the ground running at their very first Blues Night party; or the Forró Kraków community - during the weekend performing classes at Kontakt Dance School - with which the club works in a close relation to, who meet at Strefa at the weekends for dancing parties with forró and other Brazilian music, at which new dancers are also warmly welcomed.

You can also get a closer look at the culture of Poland and other Slavic countries, attending either a course of Polish traditional dances, or a vocal workshop focusing on the traditional, archaic songs of the Slavic countries, taking place every Wednesday at 8 pm and led by the owner of the club - internationally acclaimed folk singer Joanna Słowińska.

The most important and emphasized direction chosen by Strefa and the co-creator of the club's agenda: Rozstaje/Crossroads Association (expanded name: "at the crossroads of cultures and traditions"), is taking on activities minding endangered traditions, and supporting initiatives which are encouraging the attitude of tolerance, integration, intercultural dialogue, and communication on the field of art. The culmination point of the yearly educational and concert activity of the Crossroads Association & Strefa duo is the EtnoKraków/Rozstaje Festival, an international world music festival held by the Association every year for over 20 years now, with the last few editions created in collaboration with the Krakow Festival Office.

Dears,
On March 12th, Strefa has suspended its activity. It was our private decision, as it turned out not much later, coinciding with the government's regulations. For a while we haven't taken up the subject of regular online activity, also avoiding fundrising to support the place. We've chosen this tactics in hope that the current crisis and our closed doors is a temporary situation, which should be waited through, and the energy and time should be put into coming back - planning the events, renovations, brainstorms; shoulder to shoulder with the Crossroads Association. Each day, though, the perspective of coming back to normal activity seems to be more and more distant, that's why we decided to try our hand in StrefaOnline. It cannot compete with the opportunity to meet you in person - to dance, sing, listen together. Meeting you online is understood by us as a bridge, and the maintained in force promise to come back. In full strength, with new ideas, inspirations - as soon as it's safe for you and for us.

And for now - invariably and honestly - we miss you. We'll be announcing the StrefaOnline events. Take care care of yourselves, take care of the others, see you here and there!
